To me Drone is anything build around very basic repeating notes, and sounds. How you allow the sounds to progress is purely your choice. I tend to call my own music Chaos-Core, because I honestly never set out with a solid plan in mind, I just go with what I'm feeling and want to do at that time.
Try listening to some Bagpipe music to hear the roots of Drone, then work your way up through the different styles. I have found that having a solid understanding of all the thing a style can offer helps me work with that style more fluidly.
Hope this helps:)

Hello Ryan
I love music and i love creating it as well. I have recently become interested with drone music and I have read things you've posted about it. I'm not sure if this is the right place to be posting this but i will anyway :)

Upon looking up drone music, I found the more darker side of the genere sucha s drone metal which i have grown to really like. The two bands I know of are Khanate and Sunn 0))) I love both bands and wanted to create drone metal similar to but not coppying them. I play drums, guitar, sing, and piano. I want to only use electronic sounds hen I need to but I will happily edet/add effects to my voice using the computer. I was wondering if you could give me some tips on what notes to use. I know that drone music starts with a simple not but what other notes can be played after it. When I listen to Khanate and sunn 0))) i hear the same note for awhile but then other notes/chords are being played. Can you give me an example of where to go from a spacific note? Like for example if I started a drone song in C or G or A sorry for the really long post and thank you very much. I also am sorry for the spelling errors its late here and I'm not going to sleep :)
Thank you again
